It is with heavy hearts and a touch of humor that we announce the passing of William Rene Knowles (Billy), who “lost” his battle with Lung cancer on July 18th 2026. Technically it was a tie, because the cancer died when he did.
He was born in New Orleans Louisiana on December 11th, 1967 to Walter Edward Knowles and Josette Marie Beauvais-Knowles, and enjoyed a childhood full of sports, like football ball and boxing. William attended Bonnabel High School before following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps to become a third generation Ironworker for the International Ironworkers local 58 where he earned the nickname “Whip”, one of many he would get over the years. He worked impressive jobs such as the Orlando convention center, Williamsburg bridge, even working the front lines at the World Trade Center after 9/11.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother Walter Knowles, Josette Beauvais-Knowles, and sisters Rhonda Knowles and Connie Rouquette.
William leaves behind his two daughters, Billie-Layne and Gabrielle Knowles, grandson Jaxton Bearden, and siblings Walter (Buddy) Knowles Jr), Antoinette “Donna” Knowles, Rome Ford (Cliff) Connie Rouquette, Kelly Lynn Rouquette Thibodeau, Jimmy Nix and Shannon Nix as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
Including a large group of friends that have been by his side for decades, who we consider to be family!!!
A celebration of life is being planned for the near future and all who loved him or he has made laugh are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes Memorial donations to the U.S National Science foundation, a topic Billy was passionate about learning. Or you can bring items to the celebration of life that will be donated to the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center.
Please contact Billie-Layne Knowles (Billie Fidel) via Facebook for more event details.
