Born on February 9, 1946, in Beaumont, Texas, Tamas was the beloved son of George Henry and Andora Cassidy. The second youngest of nine children, he was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Pamela (née Trawick); his three sisters—Krshna Airey (Kenneth Hobbs), Krste Allison, and Dona Wright; his daughter, Amanda Wampler (Jared); and his cherished grandchildren, Scott and Lela.
Tamas dedicated 33 years to Union Carbide, where he served as a supervisor in the PXC and Taft Units. A true expert in his field, he took immense pride in his deep understanding of chemical systems, able to recall every combination the plant produced.
Following his retirement from Carbide, he transitioned into teaching, shaping the next generation of industry professionals as an instructor of Process Technology for the Louisiana State Technical College system. Later, he embraced the role of IT director, managing systems across six campuses in the River Parishes area.
In retirement, Tamas wholeheartedly pursued his many passions, including model trains, Disney, and music. He took great pride in restoring a treasured set of model trains crafted by his father in the 1930s and 1940s. His love for Disney was unmatched—he traveled to Walt Disney World at least 15 times with his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren, always eager to ride the train and stay for the nightly fireworks. A thrill-seeker at heart, he never passed up a chance to ride a rollercoaster with Amanda.
Music was another lifelong joy. He spent several years playing tuba in the Northlake Community Band alongside Amanda on clarinet, and he never missed a concert she performed in with her ensembles in Baton Rouge.
Above all, Tamas deeply loved his family. His admiration for his son-in-law, Jared, was so strong that strangers often assumed Jared was the blood relative, rather than Amanda. His favorite stories were of childhood adventures—fishing with his brothers and playing with the model trains their father built.
Tamas will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to family, his brilliant mind, and his adventurous spirit. His legacy lives on in the love he shared and the countless lives he touched.
