Paul “Droop” Babin was born on October 1, 1952 and passed away, surrounded by family, on Wednesday September 16, 2020 at 6:20 pm; at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center Baton Rouge at the age of 67 years. A service honoring Droop's life will be held at The Church International in St. Amant at 11:00am on Thursday, September 24, 2020; visitation will begin at 9:00am. He will be buried in Cornerview Cemetery which is also where his parents are buried.
Droop was a local icon in the St. Amant area, affectionately known as "Droop" and, “The Guy on the Bike." Droop was a friendly, kind, peaceful person. His famous, "Yeah you right!" will live on forever, and we will all miss seeing him riding his bike all over Ascension Parish and in the surrounding areas. If I could only use one word to describe Droop, it would be, survivor. Against all the odds this man has become a local celebrity. He never asked for anything but has given back more than most of us could in a lifetime. His tenacity in the face of tragedy and hardship has become for me a beacon of light. A spirit of determination. A desire to do no harm and a legend in his own time. He will be sorely missed by those who knew him and his unfailing love for live. Rest In Peace brother ❤️

Although he may have seen weird to other people he did have a lot of things figured out in his own way. That no matter what life threw his way he always pushed forward with a smile on his face and peace in his heart. Can't count how many times I see him around and everytime our conversation was short and simple ( Me: What's up Droop? Droop: Yeah you right. ) Our thoughts and prayers with the family. RIP Droop

Uncle Droop.. Yeah u right.. Win or lose back in the day Droop would booze. One day Droop just up and decided to quit drinking. Droop u will definitely be missed. Till this day I still can't figure out how u pushed forward so much for so long. I'm 41 years old and can remember when we would cook out back on oak wood. Well, u did all the cooking I just got in ya way. Lol. Everytime I eat or taste something spicy I think of you because you sure did love it

I gave Droop a ride to the store, he asked you will wait? Yep I sure will, I’ll miss seeing him, eating his lunch under the big trees, on Roddy Road, across from the apartments, I don’t know how many times I would see him, and say out loud, oh Droop you make me nervous you riding that bike on these roads. Keep riding Droop! To his family I’m so sorry for your loss!

I remember when I was around 15 years old me and Droop had set us up a table outside under the big oak tree and played cards for money. Well, luck was with me that day because it seemed like I was winning every hand and after a while Droop said hang on I gotta switch the luck around, going wash my hands. I laughed at Droop. Well Droop came back and nothing changed I kept winning and every so many hands we played we would stop so Droop can go wash his hands and again I would laugh. Not laughing to make fun of him for losing just joking around and Droop would just shake his head up and down clapping 👏 about the 5th time he went wash hands Droop came back shuffled the cards for what seemed like forever and Droop won that hand and every single hand from then on until I was flat broke. I only had a couple dollars we were just having fun passing time. Plus he put that money and a few dollars out of his pocket and went to the store and got something and we cooked outside on oak wood 🔥

I have grown up seeing Droop ride all over town. As a kid I only knew him as “Babin” because we knew he was kin. (My great grandmother was Madeline Babin Templet) I never actually had the chance to meet him officially but I felt like I knew him because he was always there. It won’t be the same not seeing him on his bike or sitting on the corner just enjoying the day. He will be missed!
