Michael Shane Longanecker, Jr., known to all as Shane, age 39, passed away on December 31, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was born on November 17, 1986, in Baton Rouge.
Shane was a beloved son, father, brother, and friend whose life was marked by love for others and a sincere faith in Jesus Christ. He bravely walked the difficult road of recovery, working to overcome addiction and striving to live a life grounded in faith, family, and hope. While his journey was not without struggle, Shane’s caring heart, compassion for others, and desire to do better were evident to those who knew him. He will be remembered not for his battles, but for his love.
Shane attended East Ascension High School. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, and playing softball, and was a passionate LSU fan who loved LSU football, baseball, and basketball. One of his greatest joys was being around children—he had a special way with them, and they were naturally drawn to his gentle spirit and playful nature.
A Christian and follower of Jesus Christ, Shane found comfort in Scripture. His favorite verse, Romans 8:28, reflected his faith in God’s greater purpose:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His
purpose.”
Shane is survived by his mother and father, Sherry and Terry Braud; his daughters, Braylee Longanecker (14) and Charlotte Longanecker (8); his ex-wife, Kristen Longanecker, mother of Charlotte; his sister, Tasha Braud-Jones and her husband Erik Jones; his brother, Charles Braud and his wife Mia Braud; his grandmother, Nita Longanecker; his many cherished nieces and nephews: Alyssa Murphy(Nick Murphy), Aliyah Champagne(Braydon Duke), Alexa Braud, Tru Braud, Kara Braud, Nathaniel Traina, Kenzi Traina, Cale Braud, Tris Braud, Kora Braud, and Maxx Braud; and his great nieces: Brailynn Duke and Addison Murphy. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family who loved him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Shane Longanecker, Sr.; his brother, Ryan Braud; his maternal grandmother, Katherine Withrow; his maternal grandfather, Ronald Withrow; his paternal grandfather, Wilson Longanecker, Sr.; and his godfather, Wilson Longanecker, Jr.
