Baton Rouge, Louisiana - John Calvin McClure IV, known to many as "Big John," passed away at the age of 65. It is with heavy hearts that we announce his passing.
John was born on March 18, 1961, in Mullens, West Virginia to his parents, John C McClure III and Ima Gene Isbel-McClure.
He lived life to the fullest and was always ready to have fun. Whether it was going to a concert, spending time with his family, or enjoying simple moments in between, he embraced every opportunity to make memories.
Anyone who had the privilege of knowing John quickly learned that while he deeply loved all his children, he took special pride in being a girl dad. His daughters were his pride and joy. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and truly never met a stranger. If someone had a problem, John would do what he could to fix it. His quick wit, generous heart, and larger-than-life personality will be remembered with love by all who knew him.
John is survived by his wife, Dahlila McClure; his children, R. Nicholas Cruz, Felicity McCauley (Jeremy), Emma Gene McClure, Grace McClure, and Hope Johnette McClure; his granddaughter, Aila Mae McCauley; his brother, Riley McClure (Alitia); his stepmother, Emily McClure; his uncle, Ronald McClure; and many beloved cousins and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Ima Gene Isbel-McClure; his father, John C McClure III; his sister, Bonnie Williams; his aunts, Blanche McClure and Elizabeth Gottschalk; his uncle, Lee Gottschalk; and his cousins, James and Ricky Gottschalk.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Healing Place Church Annex on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by the service at 12:00 p.m.
