John Claybert Belle, also known as "Johnny Rossetti", passed away peacefully at his home Thursday night. He was 78 years old. Born in Baton Rouge, LA, and raised in Central, Johnny grew up drinking black coffee for breakfast, riding horses, and excelling in Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle Scout by the age of 15.

Johnny was a fixture in the Louisiana music scene, playing with bands such as Kinfolk, Louisiana Traveler, See Jane Run, Rudy Richard, and most recently, Rondo Hatton. He lived his life through music, with a legendary ear and a lifelong passion for the guitar, enabling him to jam with just about anyone. He had an extraordinary knowledge of guitars, gear, and music history and mentored fellow musicians through Zeagler Music’s Weekend Warrior program. He was the longtime stage manager for the Thursday Night Blues Jam at Phil Brady’s, ensuring everyone got a chance to play.

In 2022, Johnny was presented with the Slim Harpo Pioneer Award honoring his contributions to Louisiana roots and blues music.

Cooking at home was another passion for Johnny. He loved making meals for his favorite girls; his wife, Debra and his two daughters, Robyn and Lauren.

He is survived by his wife, Debra, his two daughters, Robyn (Cindy), and Lauren Foy (Quincey), and his granddaughter, Ruby Foy; his sister Jana Peal and brother, Jack Belle; nieces and nephews: Tuesdai Miller, Tamron Allen, Justin Peal, Stephan Belle, Stevie McCrory.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Claybert and Janet Belle; brother Ludwig Belle, brother-in-law Mitchell Peal and niece Melissa Bailey.

Rossetti has taken his final bow and is now playing gigs on the other side.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Mid City Ballroom Saturday June 20th from 1:30PM-3:30PM
