The life of Joan “Pookie” Caballero Rome will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian burial held at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, in Donaldsonville on Thursday, January 18th, 2024. Visitation from 9:00 AM until mass at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow at St Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery In Paincourtville, La.

Joan “Pookie” Rome was born in Klotzville, La on February 15, 1939 and departed from this life peacefully on Wednesday January 10th, 2024 at her home in Donaldsonville, La surrounded by her family. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. Her great loves in her life were playing Bourre and Bridge with her friends, trips to the casino, and spoiling all her grandchildren.

She was retired from DAARC in 2008 and loved her clients dearly. She was also a faithful parishioner at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church.

She is survived by her sons John (Joanna) Rome, and Michael (Brenda) Rome; grandchildren Patrick (Ashley) Rome, Ryan (Holly) Rome, and Kameryn Rome; great grandchildren Andrew, Addison, Avery, and Abigail; Sister Joyce Cavilier. Sister-in-law Lena Rome; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Gerald Rome, her parents John Caballero & Noilie LeBlanc Caballero, sister Margaret Lynn Bonadona, Sister-in-laws Barbara Theriot and Janice Landry, nephew Kirk Landry, Brother-in-laws Cleveland Cavalier, Harry Theriot and Allen Rome, Jr.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the sitters, family and friends who were there for her during the years of her decline. Special thanks to Dana & Dillion her beloved sitters who cared for her tirelessly through the past year. Also, Tara & Michelle with Hospice, her earthly angels.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Joan “Pookie” Rome to DAARC.
