James “Jim” A. Wainwright, III, better known as “Beatle” to his friends, born on November 17, 1950, and passed away at the age of 74 on July 27, 2025, at home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Jim was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and lived there and in Jackson, Mississippi during his younger years. He graduated in 1969 from Callaway High School in Jackson, Mississippi. He then attended Louisiana State University where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and graduated in 1984 with a BS degree in marketing. During that time, he developed his love for Baton Rouge, where he lived for the remainder of his life. He enjoyed his work at the Business Report, which he retired from. Jim was an avid (to put it lightly) fan of all things LSU, and you were likely to find him at most football and baseball games. His hobbies were golf, painting, making knives, hunting and cooking. He also had a great fondness for cockatiels and had many over the years as pets. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James A. Wainwright Jr. and Joyce A. Wainwright, as well as his sister, Beverly Cones. He is survived by his sister, Catherine Vollmer (Larry) of Kingwood, Texas; brother Stephen Wainwright, of Kingwood, Texas; nieces Kristen Marek (Dwight) of Cypress, Texas and Natalie Cones of Houston, Texas; and nephew Derek Cones (Keira) of Shanghai, China. He also leaves behind three great-nephews, Lance, Everett and Bennett Marek. The family is planning a reception to honor Jim’s life at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815 on Sunday, September 14 from 2pm to 4pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jim’s memory to the LSU Alumni Association www.lsualumni.org or to a charity of your choosing.
