Jack David Collins, Jr., better known as Davy, was born on January 3, 1975 and died on February 22, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents Catherine Ballard and Jack David Collins, Sr., his brother Christian Major, and his son Christian Lane Collins. He is survived by his eldest brothers Darin Roach (Amy), Jeffery Scott Roach (Shane), Brian and Dwayne Collins; mothers of his children Madonna Lane, Tracye Mireles and Mandy Ryan; his ex-wife Shantell Mora; his daughters Holly Ryan (Cody), Autum St. Angelo (Johnathon), Jerney Harms; his sons Brendan Robert (Shelby), John Tobon, Devon Guidry; and a wealth of nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Davy enjoyed fishing and making people laugh through his goofy, obnoxious sense of humor, especially through pranks. His favorite color was pink, although he might publicly disagree. Davy was a fighter: a survivor of miscellaneous work incidents, crazy car accidents, and cancer. When his wedding ring didn’t stay on his nub of a finger, he had it tattooed. He was relentless.

Although his death still came as a shock, most of us have feared for years that his battle with drug addiction would claim his life. Dolefully, he will also be remembered as part of a Fentanyl- related drug overdose statistic. So that his death is not in vain, we can only raise awareness for drug addiction related death. According to the CDC, overdose related deaths peaked in 2023 with over 112,000 people. Someone dies from overdose every four and a half minutes. That’s well over 112,000 people whose hearts are broken. That’s well over 112,000 people whose lives are forever impacted by losing someone we love and wished would choose the other logical path of sobriety.

If you are struggling with addiction, please reach out for help. There are resources, but a dead person cannot be helped. There are people who love you and who desperately want a close relationship with you. You may feel lonely in your heart, but you are not alone. If you are a family member or friend of a loved one who struggles with addiction, tell them you love them every chance you get. Pray for them. Raise awareness. Every chance you get.

Davy may not have left behind the legacy that was intended for him, but he did leave a legacy. Hopefully with his death, many lives are saved.
