On January 6, 2024, Hilda Sharp McCrary passed into the presence of the Lord, just four days shy of her 86th birthday. Born in Picayune, MS, and raised in Metairie, LA, she studied nursing at the Mather School of Nursing at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans. She graduated in 1961 as a registered nurse, and that same year she met the love of her life, James McCrary, whom she married in December of 1961. Hilda was deeply committed to her family and enjoyed serving them with her many talents—she loved to cook, bake, sew, crochet, and embroider. One of her husband’s fondest memories is of her making her daughter’s wedding gown; he still likes to talk about how, in just a couple of days, she remarkably sewed by hand over a thousand pearl beads to the gown. She was known for her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ; when she was a young child, she believed in Him alone as her Savior. For three decades, she was a faithful member of the Campus Bible Class founded by Nick Kalivoda. She was a regular listener to Thru the Bible with Dr J Vernon McGee and was a longtime, dedicated student of the Bible. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Howard, and Louise Sharp. She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, James; her daughter, Pam Esteven (Roy); her son, Tim McCrary (Anne Marie); her five grandchildren, Jordan Diaz, James Esteven, Jessie McCrary, and Wesley and Lillian McCrary; and her brothers, Charles Sharp (Gloria) and Allen Sharp (Judy). The family will hold a private graveside service to honor her life and legacy.
