George P. Gullett, a devoted family man and passionate nature lover, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the age of 82. Born on June 21, 1943, in Milford, Delaware, George's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his career, and his beloved outdoor pursuits.
George served his country with honor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he was part of the esteemed 101st Airborne Division. His service is a testament to his character and commitment to others.
After his military service, George found a rewarding career with the Department of Environmental Quality for the state of Louisiana. He worked diligently in this role, ultimately retiring with an impressive 401 accumulated sick days, a reflection of both his dedication to his job and his ability to maintain good health.
Family was at the core of George's life. He shared 56 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Lee Gullett. Together, they created a loving home filled with laughter, support, and cherished memories. George was the proud father of two daughters, Sarah and Laura, who along with their husbands, filled his life with joy. He was also the adoring grandfather to six granddaughters, whose smiles and adventures brought him immense happiness.
Those who knew George will remember him as a passionate advocate for the environment and a lover of nature. His affection for animals was well-known, and he often shared his love of fishing and the outdoors with his family. One of George's fondest memories was sailing weekly on Lake Pontchartrain with his nephews and sister, a tradition that brought them closer together and forged lasting bonds.
George is remembered lovingly by his surviving family, including his wife, daughters, granddaughters, and his older sister, Rosie Ryan, and her six children. He now reunites with his beloved parents, Herbert and Barbara Gullett, and his siblings, Nan and Jim, who preceded him in death.
As we reflect on the life of George P. Gullett, we celebrate his unwavering spirit, love for his family, and the indelible marks he left on the hearts of those around him. His legacy of kindness, loyalty, and dedication will forever be cherished.
A ceremony celebrating George's life will be held on Saturday March 14, 2026, at First Christian Church at 11:00 am.
