Francis Earl Binning, age 69, of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away peacefully at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center’s Medical Intensive Care Unit, surrounded by family, on September 6, 2026.
Born in Baton Rouge, LA, Francis proudly served as a Cannon Crew Chief in the United States Army from 1975 to 1978. He was honorably discharged after sustaining injuries during his service, a sacrifice that shaped the remainder of his life.
Following his military service, Francis was self-employed as an airboat tour guide in the Florida Everglades for three years. He then returned to Louisiana, where he worked for the East Baton Rouge Parish Department of Public Works Wastewater Department for ten years before ending his civilian career as an airboat tour guide in the Atchafalaya Basin.
Francis was featured in Who’s Who in American Martial Arts, Third Edition, for his achievements in White Lotus Ninjutsu. He was a black belt and an expert in the use of edged weapons. He assisted with the training of close-quarters, hand-to-hand combat and stealth techniques involving edged weapons for the United States Navy Special Response Team, Anti-Terrorist Counter-Terrorism Unit.
Francis enjoyed various hobbies throughout his life, notably genealogy, falconry, bead looming, and leatherworking. In his final years, he enjoyed drinking a Mochasippi from CC’s while watching his favorite show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He was a man who lived life on his own terms and will be remembered for his passionate drive, independent spirit, and sense of humor.
Francis was preceded in death by his father, Ira Carey Binning Sr.; his mother, Loretta M. Roberts; and his half-brother, Jon Carey Binning Sr. He leaves behind numerous family members who will attend a private burial at the Louisiana National Cemetery to honor and celebrate his life.
