Ernest Joseph Arbour, Sr., lovingly known as Ernie, passed away on October 1, 2026, at the age of 76. He was a native and resident of Baton Rouge, LA.
Ernie was a graduate of Istrouma High School, Class of 1968. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. In his working life, he was a longtime Plant Operator and Security Officer at Kaiser Aluminum. He was also the majority owner of Landmark Antique Plaza.
Ernie found his greatest joy in the people he loved. He loved spending time with his family and had a special love for children. Watching them play always brought a smile to his face.
He is survived by his soulmate, Annette Broussard Root. He also leaves behind his children, Ernie Arbour Jr. and his wife, Linda Jeans Arbour; ReneƩ Arbour Braud and her husband, Stan Braud Jr.; Todd Arbour; and stepdaughter Angela Tam. He is also survived by his sister, Sue Minner, and his brother, Paul Arbour.
Ernie was a proud Papa to seven grandchildren: Ashley Slater (Brandon); Ryan Arbour (Dafney); Eric Arbour; Kailey Dolan; Allison Anderson (Dane); Riley Braud; and Bryton Arbour. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Jaxtyn and Riggs.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Thomas Arbour Sr.; his mother, Doris Hart Arbour; and his brothers, Tommy Arbour and Richard Arbour.
Ernie will be remembered for his steady work ethic, his love for family, his kindness toward children, and the simple happiness he found in fishing, cooking, collecting, and time spent at False River. His life touched many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
