In Loving Memory of Barbara Mitchell Kees. October 1, 1944 – October 8, 2025

It is with deep sadness and love that we share the passing of our beloved sister and aunt, Barbara Mitchell Kees, who left this world peacefully on October 8, 2025, at the age of 81. Barbara was deeply loved by her family and friends.

Born in Baton Rouge on October 1, 1944, Barbara was the eldest daughter of E. D. and Lula Belle Forbes Mitchell. Barbara was a woman of warmth, strength, and kindness whose presence brought light to every life she touched. She will be remembered for her generosity, her laughter, and the unwavering love she showed to her family and friends. Those who knew her will never forget her gentle heart and her ability to make others feel cared for and valued.

Barbara was a nurse for 53 years and felt that was her life’s calling. She had such a love of life, helping others, and just having fun! She found joy in traveling with family and friends. She loved the beach, Disney World, Mardi Gras, Christmas. and especially the LSU Fighting Tigers. Her humorous and fun loving presence will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas H. Kees; her parents, E. D. and Lula Belle Forbes Mitchell; her brother, Ewell Mitchell; her sister, Sarah Brice; her brother-in-law, Tom Brice; her sister-in-law, Patricia Mitchell; her nephew, Jeffrey Brice Sr; and her niece, Anna Purvis. She leaves behind her brother, Donovan Mitchell (Barbara), her sisters, Margaret Purvis (Gary) and Veronica Gregory (Keith); her stepson, Kevin Kees; her Nieces and their families: Tonya Mizell, Elizabeth Hill, Courtney Hart, Rachel Hood, and Krista Gregory; her Nephews and their families: Donny Mitchell, Rusty Mitchell, Jonathan Gregory, Jeremy Gregory, and Mitchell Brice; and many other relatives, and friends who will cherish her memory. Though our hearts are heavy, we are comforted in knowing she lived a full and beautiful life surrounded by those who loved her deeply, and knowing that she is at peace with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A celebration of her life will be held for family and friends to gather to honor her memory and share stories of her remarkable spirit. It will be held at Sandy Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, November 1, 2025 with visitation from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm, and service following.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Sandy Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.

Her love lives on in all of us who were blessed to know her.

Family and friends of Barbara Mitchell Kees who prefer to provide a memorial contribution may do so. The family will use these to honor Barbara's life and memory. Please continue to keep the family in your thoughts throughout this challenging time.
