A native of Baton Rouge, Barbara Burkes Banta, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022. She was 79 years old and served 1 year in the United States Air Force and was a retired Registered Nurse from Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at The LDS Church at 25367 Riverton Ave in Denham Springs, La at 2pm on Tuesday, January 25,2022. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Banta of 48 years, her parents Joe Ellis Burkes and Marguerite Bersuder Burkes and her brother Bobby Burkes. She is survived by their children Chris Banta and wife Carol Parry Banta, Patrick Banta and wife Erin Bourgeois Banta, Erin Banta, and Megan Banta Lierman and husband Chris Lierman; her seven grandchildren Jake Banta, Chayla Banta Schoenrock and husband Ian Schoenrock, Courtney Banta Mendoza-Flores and husband Aaron Mendoza-Flores, Sam Lierman, Charlie Lierman, Elliot Lierman and Chloe Breaux; her great-grandchildren Olivia and Phoebe Schoenrock; her sister Carolyn Burkes Berthelot and husband Carl “Bit” Berthelot; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in honor of her to. Funds will be used towards the expense of the funeral and any excess funds being donated to Our Lady of the Lake Foundation or you can honor her by donating blood to your local blood bank.
